52 g/I Boron (B) present as Disodium Octaborate Tetra hydrate with 12 g/I Benzalkonium Chloride in a solvent that enables easy diffusion into timber and other porous surfaces.
TERMITES PROTECTIMBER® active ingredient is Boron, is toxic to many insects, decay organisms and some forms of bacteria. Although the efficacy of borates (salts containing the mineral Boron) against insects such as termites, timber boring beetles and wood decay on contact is well documented (in fact governments throughout the world have been using these products for well over 40-years). Where PROTECTIMBER® has been applied, insects that eat the timber also ingest the active ingredient. Once individual members of termite colonies begin to die after feeding on a treated timber surface, the rest of the colony usually stops feeding on that same source. Therefore untreated timber may still be a source of food for termites. PROTECTIMBER® is well suited to control wood decay or dry rot and insects as they exist in timber mainly due to high moisture levels. On new timber the use of Cellavit General Purpose Clear, Cellavit Permaterm® or Cellavit Green® as these products will keep moisture out of timber solving this problem right from the start. PROTECTIMBER® readily diffuses into all types of timber, including softwood and hardwoods with the help of sufficient moisture at least 8%. Where the moisture levels are at higher levels such as 18% will move right into heartwood of timber. PROTECTIMBER® when coated on the surface enters the timber within minutes taking the active ingredients further and deeper into the timber diffusing through the entire piece providing there is correct application and sufficient moisture.
PROTECTIMBER® is non corrosive to metals, is colourless and almost odourless. Timber can be nailed, screwed, cut or sawn without detrimental effect. PROTECTIMBER USED INSIDE A HOUSE WILL LAST IN THE TIMBER FOR THE LIFE OF THE BUILDING. NOT BREAKING DOWN AS AN INSECTICDE WOULD LIKE EVEN DIELDRIN, NOW BREAKING DOWN IN THE SOIL AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS AFTER USE. PROTECTIMBER® is applied directly from the container to the timber it can be used in areas where environmental contamination's is of concern. The Boron is an organic salt and once in place it will not decompose or volatize out of the timber. However leaching of the boron salts can occur when the treated surface is in touch with water such as in flooding or continuous rain. Hence sealing the timber surface in these circumstances is absolutely essential with Cellavit Industrial Clear water repellent or a good quality paint.
Builders, renovators and home owners can apply PROTECTIMBER® themselves coating all of the available timber surfaces. However for remedial work and large houses it would be preferable to have a pest manager apply the product. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: RESTRAINTS
APPLICATION TABLE: ALL STATES
NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE OR IN ANY MANNER CONTRARY TO THIS LABEL UNLESS AUTHORISED UNDER APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION. SPRAY-ON BORON The rate to use is 5 litre's of Protectimber to 2 litre's of warm water. You then have to apply 75 ml per lineal metre twice which gives you the rate of 150m1 per lineal metre. PROTECTIMBER® is supplied ready to use for in-situ, remedial, preventative treatment as per application table. Can be used in holes at ground level in poles or posts to kick start boron rods. If the timber surface to be treated is very dry, the penetration of PROTECTIMBER® will be enhanced if the surface is sprayed with water prior to treatment. This is always necessary when using the remedial or insecticidal rate for the treatment of aged timbers with very dry surfaces. PROTECTIMBER® can be applied immediately after the water has been absorbed by the surface.
When using high rates (remedial/insecticidal), it will be necessary to apply via two coatings with sufficient time between the two coats to allow full penetration. (Can be 30 minutes to an hour or so depending on the timber and conditions at the time). ALGAE, FUNGI, MOULD, LICHENS, SLIME AND MOSS
