52 g/I Boron (B) present as Disodium Octaborate Tetra hydrate with 12 g/I Benzalkonium Chloride in a solvent that enables easy diffusion into timber and other porous surfaces.
PROTECTIMBER® is an innovative clear fungicidal and insecticide based product specifically made for the do it yourself market (D.I.Y.), home renovator and builder for many applications around your home that eliminates existing infestations provides long term protection against.

TERMITES
Subterranean (white ants), all species
BORERS,
powder post beetles (lyctus), anobiid
(Common furniture beetle), drywood longicorn
borers, common ambrosia beetles, (common
furniture beetle), European house borer.
WOOD DECAY,
Brown rot, white rot and fungi
MOULD, ALGAE, SLIME, MOSS AND LICHENS

PROTECTIMBER® active ingredient is Boron, is toxic to many insects, decay organisms and some forms of bacteria. Although the efficacy of borates (salts containing the mineral Boron) against insects such as termites, timber boring beetles and wood decay on contact is well documented (in fact governments throughout the world have been using these products for well over 40-years).

Where PROTECTIMBER® has been applied, insects that eat the timber also ingest the active ingredient. Once individual members of termite colonies begin to die after feeding on a treated timber surface, the rest of the colony usually stops feeding on that same source. Therefore untreated timber may still be a source of food for termites.
Older timber borers already in timber at the time of treatment may occasionally burrow deep into the timber ahead of the diffusing boron and emerge sometimes after treatment. This should not occur frequently enough to cause additional structural damage to any timber section.

PROTECTIMBER® is well suited to control wood decay or dry rot and insects as they exist in timber mainly due to high moisture levels. On new timber the use of Cellavit General Purpose Clear, Cellavit Permaterm® or Cellavit Green® as these products will keep moisture out of timber solving this problem right from the start.

PROTECTIMBER® readily diffuses into all types of timber, including softwood and hardwoods with the help of sufficient moisture at least 8%. Where the moisture levels are at higher levels such as 18% will move right into heartwood of timber.

PROTECTIMBER® when coated on the surface enters the timber within minutes taking the active ingredients further and deeper into the timber diffusing through the entire piece providing there is correct application and sufficient moisture.

Boron diffusion shown via curcumin test after 4 months at approx. 85% humidity.

PROTECTIMBER® is non corrosive to metals, is colourless and almost odourless. Timber can be nailed, screwed, cut or sawn without detrimental effect.

PROTECTIMBER USED INSIDE A HOUSE WILL LAST IN THE TIMBER FOR THE LIFE OF THE BUILDING. NOT BREAKING DOWN AS AN INSECTICDE WOULD LIKE EVEN DIELDRIN, NOW BREAKING DOWN IN THE SOIL AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS AFTER USE.

PROTECTIMBER® is applied directly from the container to the timber it can be used in areas where environmental contamination's is of concern. The Boron is an organic salt and once in place it will not decompose or volatize out of the timber. However leaching of the boron salts can occur when the treated surface is in touch with water such as in flooding or continuous rain. Hence sealing the timber surface in these circumstances is absolutely essential with Cellavit Industrial Clear water repellent or a good quality paint.

Used at Griffith University Brisbane for prevention of termites on particle board.

Builders, renovators and home owners can apply PROTECTIMBER® themselves coating all of the available timber surfaces. However for remedial work and large houses it would be preferable to have a pest manager apply the product.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

RESTRAINTS

  • NOT TO BE USED on surfaces which come into direct contact with foodstuffs.
  • NOT TO BE USED on roofs for collection of potable water.
  • NOT TO BE USED on surfaces which come into contact with the ground.
  • NOT TO BE USED on timber surfaces exposed to rain unless Cellavit® Industrial Clear water repellent or other suitable protective finish is used to stop leaching of the product.

APPLICATION TABLE: ALL STATES
PROTECTIMBER® can be applied by brush, roller, dipping or by spraying...

NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE OR IN ANY MANNER CONTRARY TO THIS LABEL UNLESS AUTHORISED UNDER APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION.

SPRAY-ON BORON
The best application is to paint it on. However, it can be sprayed on too but has to be diluted at the following ratio to allow it to go through most spray applicators but remember that you still have to achieve the correct loading of boron in the timber.

The rate to use is 5 litre's of Protectimber to 2 litre's of warm water.

You then have to apply 75 ml per lineal metre twice which gives you the rate of 150m1 per lineal metre.

Structural timbers can be treated.

PROTECTIMBER® is supplied ready to use for in-situ, remedial, preventative treatment as per application table. Can be used in holes at ground level in poles or posts to kick start boron rods.

If the timber surface to be treated is very dry, the penetration of PROTECTIMBER® will be enhanced if the surface is sprayed with water prior to treatment. This is always necessary when using the remedial or insecticidal rate for the treatment of aged timbers with very dry surfaces.

PROTECTIMBER® can be applied immediately after the water has been absorbed by the surface.

Termite damage beyond repair-don't let this happen to you.

When using high rates (remedial/insecticidal), it will be necessary to apply via two coatings with sufficient time between the two coats to allow full penetration. (Can be 30 minutes to an hour or so depending on the timber and conditions at the time).
On timber, an organic dye can be added to the product to see where you have treated.

ALGAE, FUNGI, MOULD, LICHENS, SLIME AND MOSS
Best results are obtained by pressure cleaning the algae, mould and other pathogens off concrete or other similar porous surfaces and then applying the diluted PROTECTIMBER®
With the application for algae and mould etc you dilute PROTECTIMBER® 1 part to 1 part warm water and apply to timber or other porous surfaces as a paint or as a spray. Also be aware that the results will not be immediate like chlorine, but you have a much longer residual of approximately three years or more years depending on porosity of the material being you are treating.

  • PROTECTIMBER® is not toxic to mammals and people and is safe to use. Is poisonous however to insects and fungi.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is environmental friendly. Protected from rain and water will last the life of the house.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is a natural occurring mineral that fixes in to the timber, does not volatize off. However, will leach from surfaces with a lot of rain.
  • PROTECTIMBER® can be painted over after it is completely dry with quality water based paints, finishes or water repellents like Cellavit Industrial Clear to stop leaching.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is the ideal product for preventing and controlling decay, termites and borers as it follows the moisture in the timber as they do.
  • PROTECTIMBER® prevents and controls a wide range of fungi that causes decay and wood rots.
  • PROTECTIMBER® also prevents and controls surface moulds, slime, algae and lichens. It has a long residual life depending on the porosity of the building material such as masonry and concrete.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is the ideal D.I.Y. product. Can be applied by anyone.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is suitable for all types of timbers in all types of buildings and can be applied as a primer to untreated timbers such as skirting boards, doors, furniture etc.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is safe to use for wood turners and wood working, for borer attack.
  • PROTECTIMBER® comes in convenient easy to use packaging.
  • PROTECTIMBER® is easily applied straight from the can undiluted(except for spraying)
  • PACK SIZES: 1, 5, 10, and 20 (2x10), 200 litre's
