CONTROLLABLE RELEASE FERTILISERS

APEX® professional horticultural products use revolutionary Polyon® fertiliser technology in many of their formulations.

WHAT IS POLYON?

Polyon Polymer Coated Fertilisers (PCF) are new advanced controllable release fertilisers, which are specifically designed to meet the prolonged feeding requirements of ornamentals. The Polyon coating technology features an ultra thin polymer coating to provide complete, precision release of nutrients gradually over time. Polyon PCF has an extremely tough, durable coating to withstand fracturing even during severe handling, blending or application operations. NO premature release due to fractures coatings, but also NO hot water insolubles remaining unreleased JUST controlled, yet complete release when needed.

HOW DOES POLYON RELEASE?

Polyon PCF releases by OSMOSIS – the constant, gradual diffusion of nutrients through the polymer coating. The rate of osmotic diffusion is controllable by the thickness of applied coating. Osmotic diffusion rates increase as so8il temperatures increase, and decrease as soil temperatures decrease. The osmotic release mechanism essentially is unaffected by varying amounts of soil moisture, microbes or pH levels, assuring a more predictable release pattern.

CONSISTENT NUTRIENT DELIVERY RESULTS IN UNIFORM GROWTH

University studies prove what nurseries have known for years. Polyon delivers nutrients more consistently than any other coating technology on the market. It’s that consistency you’ll notice in every plant you grow. Unlike many other nutrient delivery systems, Polyon doesn’t release nutrients prematurely in wet conditions. Instead, this temperature responsive coating works through a consistent osmotic process that delivers more in warm temperatures, less in cool temperatures just as your plants demand it.

POLYON WITHSTANDS APPLICATION ABUSE

Polyon is produced by patented reactive layers coating (RLC) process. This process creates s tough, ultra thin polymer membrane that resists fractures. Other polymer-based coatings are susceptible to cracking causing premature nutrient release, inconsistent delivery and possible burning.

NUTRIENT RELEASE CONTROLLED BY COATING THICKNESS

With APEX fertilisers the osmotic diffusion of nutrients is controlled by the thickness of the Polyon coating. The thicker the coating, the longer the release. The superior coating and quality control offer predictable results in each climatic zone.

UNIFORM PARTICLES DELIVER APPLICATION CONSISTENCY

Some fertilisers contain different sized and shaped particles that are unevenly distributed. Our homogeneous pellets of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and uniformly blended nutrients provide consistent distribution and growth performance even when top-dressed.

RELEASE BY OSMOSIS

  • Moisture absorption – during the first week after application, soil moisture is slowly absorbed by the polymer coating. When the absorbed moisture reaches the encapsulated nutrients, the nutrients begin to dissolve, and to this point no nutrients are yet released.
  • Nutrient diffusion – the encapsulated nutrients gradually dissolve, and in solution are slowly but constantly released by osmotic diffusion.
  • Polymer decomposition – following the complete release of nutrients, the ultra thin polymer membrane collapses then microbially decomposes or photodegrades into naturally occurring carbon dioxide, ammonium and water.
