COMPACTS FLOWERING Waiken is a reliable dormancy management tool, compacting the flowering period to significantly improve the effect of chemical thinning treatments, assisting in more uniformly mature fruit. Thanks to its proprietary chemistry, Waiken allows growers to capitalise on more profitable early markets. ALLOWS CROSS POLLINATION Not only does Waiken deliver benefits to growers in the short term, but it is also a very important tool for growers in the long-term sustainability of their operations. Waiken helps promote limb growth in young fruit trees and also has the ability to bring forward bud break to help align flowering across varieties to achieve cross-pollination adding to its outstanding management characteristics. PROTECTION FROM FROSTS Interest in Waiken initially arose following grower requests for a viable product that assists with bud break and accurate flowering in low chill environments. Waiken can bring forward bud break or set it back to stagger maturity and improve productivity at harvesting by protecting the crop from frost damage. USE PERMITS FOR A RANGE OF CROPS Waiken is registered for use on apples and cherries; in addition use permits are pending for commercial trials in pears, plums, peaches, nectarines, apricots, table and wine grapes, persimmons and custard apples. Trials already undertaken on plums, grapes and peaches have shown excellent results with good compaction of flowering and the ability to move flowering time observed. AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPED AND TESTED Waiken is a break through for growers Australia wide, providing new proprietary chemistry delivering the ultimate dormancy management tool with positive traits from a user hazard perspective. The availability of Waiken follows seven years of research and development from manufacturers SST Australia Pty Ltd, with extensive trials on some of Australia’s largest Pome and Stone fruit orchards. Waiken has outstanding shelf making it a manageable and reliable dormancy break tool that puts control back in the hands of the grower. |

The general recommendations above for time of application may need to be varied depending on the species or variety being treated and also dependent upon the region and environmental conditions that prevail. Earlier application in some cases is desirable in areas of minimal risk of damage from frost. Further advise, prior to using Waiken, on timing of application and appropriate record keeping, should be obtained from your farm chemical supplier, consultant, local Department of Agriculture, Primary Industries Department, or a SST Australia representative. Pretreatment to fruit thinning in apples – Waiken may be a useful tool in assisting with fruit thinning in apples because a shorter blossoming period in apples is associated with more reliable and predictable thinning of apples with chemicals. An application of Waiken will help compact the blossom period and help reduce the risk of overthinning or underthinning. Improve pollination in apples and cherries – there is evidence to show that improving pollination can improve fruit set, fruit size and fruit quality. |
