FASIMEC® CATTLE
OPTIMISING PRODUCTIVITY IS NO FLUKE

FASIMEC® CATTLE is a unique oral formulation of triclabendazole and ivermectin primarily indicated for the simultaneous control of gastro-intestinal roundworms and liver fluke in cattle.

The active ingredient, triclabendazole, is highly effective against all stages of the liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica).

At the recommended dose rate, triclabendazole effectively controls the susceptible early immature and immature migrating stages and the mature bile duct stages of liver fluke in cattle (and other animal species).

For many years, Novartis Animal Health has sold triclabendazole-based drenches world-wide under the brand name FASINEX®.

The second active in FAXIMEC CATTLE, ivermectin, is highly effective against a broad spectrum of internal and external parasites.

Ivermectin is also sold world-wide, with the Ivomec® range being well recognised in Australia.

Novartis Animal Health has now developed FASIMEC CATTLE, a combination of these two outstanding actives, triclabendazole and ivermectin.

FASIMEC CATTLE is indicated for the treatment and control of ivermectin-sensitive strains of gastro-intestinal roundworms, including those resistant to benzimidazole, levamisole or morantel-based products.

FASIMEC CATTLE also controls all three stages of triclabendazole-sensitive liver fluke in cattle.

BENEFITS OF FASIMEC CATTLE

  • Combination of ivermectin and triclabendazole in a single, convenient product.
  • Eliminates the need for on-farm mixing of products or for two separate worm and fluke treatments.
  • Triclabendazole provides the best control of liver fluke.
  • Ivermectin provides broad-spectrum roundworm control.
  • Cost-effective.
  • FASIMEC CATTLE is more effective against liver fluke than Ivomec Plus.

DOSE RATES AND ADMINISTRATION

FASIMEC CATTLE is an oral anthelmintic, administered at the recommended dose rate of 5ml/50kg liveweight (1ml/10kg for animals less than 100kg liveweight - Table 2).

This equates to 12mg triclabendazole and 0.2mg ivermectin per kg. These rates are comparable to when these active ingredients are used alone in formulated products such as FASINEX (triclabendazole) and Ivomec Antiparasitic Injection for Cattle (ivermectin).

Numerous dosing guns were tested for compatibility and ease of use during the development of FASIMEC CATTLE.

The product can be applied through most manual drenching guns, although 10mm draw-off tubes and floating hooks are recommended to decrease refill time and minimise hand fatigue.

FASIMEC CATTLE is also compatible with the Genesis Power Doser. The optimum operating pressure for administration with this gun is 35-45 psi.
USE PATTERNS

FASIMEC CATTLE is a very effective flukicide and good control should be achieved with only two or three treatments a year on most properties.

BEEF CATTLE

Treat only young fluke-susceptible cattle in February, particularly if they have been grazing in heavy fluke-infested areas.

Treatment for all stock in April/May. This is important to eliminate fluke burdens acquired over the previous spring and summer months.

DAIRY CATTLE

Because FASIMEC CATTLE cannot be used within 28 days prior to calving or during lactation, milking cows should be treated with FASIMEC CATTLE at drying off.

If a property is heavily infested with liver fluke, lactating cows may need an interim treatment with a flukicide produce that has a nil milk-withholding period. The fluke burden should then be controlled property with FASIMEC CATTLE at the next drying-off period.

Young replacement heifers and dry cows should be managed in a similar program to that described for beef cattle.

First calving heifers should be treated at least 28 days prior to calving.

PACKAGING

FASIMEC CATTLE is available in 1L, 5L and 20L packs. The number of doses per pack is presented in Table 2.

PRODUCT SAFETY

Avoid contact with the eyes. Wash hands after using FASIMEC CATTLE.

MEAT - DO NOT USE FASIMEC CATTLE less than 21 days before slaughter for human consumption. NOTE: The Export Slaughter Interval (ESI) is 56 days.

MILK - DO NOT administer FASIMEC CATTLE to lactating cows or within 28 days of calving where milk or milk by-products may be used for human consumption.
